This is what’s been happening this month at SCO:

Our New System

SCO Recruitment is happy to announce that at the end of this month our new recruitment system will be up and running!

We have recently invested a lot of time and effort in setting up TurboRecruit which will benefit us, our clients and our candidates.

Some of the advantages of our new system include:

  • Streamlined design and layout
  • Comprehensive search tools
  • Wide range of reporting options
  • Greater speed and flexibility
  • Ability to login anywhere, anytime

All of these will create an even more efficient recruitment process!

For our clients and candidates, TurboRecruit provides:

  • Automatic emails about new job openings
  • Ability to apply for jobs directly on our website
  • Ability to submit timesheets online

TurboRecruit will also be integrated with our back end, meaning accounts and payroll errors will be minimised.

Group Certificates

As it is fast approaching the end of the financial year, SCO Recruitment will be sending out Payment Summary’s (Group Certificate’s) to each of our employees.

We will be sending these out by the 14th of July, and you should receive yours by the 30th of July.

It is very important that if you have changed your address recently, you must let us know of your new address details as soon as possible so we can send you your Payment Summary.

If your details have changed, please give us a call on 1300 243 850.

Corporate Social Responsibility Award

SCO Recruitment was recently named as a finalist of the Corporate Social Responsibility Award at this year’s RCSA Awards.

While we did not win, it was still great to be recognised by the leading professional body for recruitment in Australia for our contributions to the community.

For those who don’t know, SCO Recruitment works with our not-for-profit company Trim and Proper Property Services which employs socially disadvantaged, long term unemployed and Indigenous Australians as cleaners, gardeners, horticulturalists and handypersons to service its property maintenance contracts.

Over the past 3 years, SCO has contributed in kind services to the value of almost $700,000 to Trim and Proper, or 15% of our gross profits each year. We also recruit all of the employees needed to support Trim and Proper’s work.

This means by using us for your recruitment needs, you are helping us to give back to the community!

Employee of the Month

For the month of June, our employees of the month are:

Andy Susanto of Fairfield Car Parks

Con Hatzis of SITA Lucas Heights

Congratulations Andy and Con! We really appreciate all of your great work! We’ll be sending you both a double pass to the movies!

Client of the Month

Our client of the month for June goes to…

Fairfield City Council – Car Parks

Fairfield were chosen based on their excellent communication with us which has led to the successful operation of the three car parks which are currently being managed.

Thank you Fairfield City Council for all your support!!!

WH&S – Winter

As we have entered winter, we thought now would be a good time to remind everyone about working in winter conditions. As many of our employees work outdoors, this is particularly relevant.

If working outside, it is important to inspect the work area to determine how the weather has or may affect the site.

Rain, sleet and ice are all hazardous and can easily lead to slips, trips and falls. Strong gusts of wind can throw items into the air which can cause injuries.

These winter conditions may make it difficult for you to perform your duties, so please remember to be mindful and always take care.

When working outside, it is important to dress appropriately for the conditions. It is better to wear multiple layers of clothing which can be taken off as opposed to wearing one thick jumper, which may become too heavy or make you too hot for the tasks you need to perform.

April Newsletter

Can you believe we are already one third of the way through 2013! This year is flying by!

This is what’s been happening this month at SCO:

BRW Fast Starters 2013

Last Wednesday night we travelled down to Melbourne to attend the 2013 BRW Fast Starters awards.

It was a great night out, we met a lot of interesting and talented people and we had a lot of fun!

The Fast Starters awards recognise the top 100 startup companies in Australia and this year SCO Recruitment came in 4th place!

This was a fantastic achievement and was an improvement over our ranking of 19th place last year! It was a privilege to be a part of such a great award.

To read more about us and the other Fast Starters, see

Perth Tender

SCO Recruitment has recently been successful in winning a tender for the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) in Perth, allowing us to provide labour hire to six of their member Councils.

The Councils are located in Perth’s Eastern suburbs and include the Town of Bassendean, City of Bayswater, City of Belmont, Shire of Kalamunda, Shire of Mundaring and the City of Swan.

We have already received a number of orders through the contract and we are looking forward to building our relationships with these Councils over the coming months.

Employee of the Month

This is the part of our newsletter that our employees look forward to the most!

For the month of April, our employees of the month are:

Roy Byers

Ron is currently working out at Parramatta Council and his supervisors have been very happy with his performance.

Jennifer is working at one of our newer clients, Big Sister, and has been very reliable, punctual and always has a positive attitude.

Well done Roy and Jennifer and keep up the great work! We’ll be sending you both a double pass to the movies!

Client of the Month

Our client of the month for April goes to…

for having no lost time as a result of injuries since trading

Thank you Portavin for your continued support, and congratulations on being our client of the month!

WH&S – Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

The Work Health and Safety Act 2011 requires that Persons Conducting Business (PCBUs) take reasonable and practical steps to protect their workers from workplace hazards. This includes providing appropriate PPE and ensuring it is being used for tasks it is designed for.

Depending on your role, required PPE may include safety glasses, protective gloves, ear plugs and hi-vis clothing.

Selecting PPE

  • When selecting PPE, fit and comfort should be a priority
  • Improperly fitted PPE may in fact cause more harm than good
  • All PPE must meet AS/NZ standards for your occupation

If you are in any doubt as to what PPE is required for your role, please contact your supervisor or SCO Account Manager.

timesheet 7

This is another reminder that all timesheets are due each Monday by 10:00am.

Our employees work hard and we want to make sure they are getting paid on time for the hours they work each week.

If you have any issues or concerns regarding timesheets, give your SCO Account Manager a call. Alternatively you can contact our accounts team directly on 1300 243 850.

March Newsletter

This is what has been happening this month at SCO Recruitment!

Melbourne and Perth Offices

We’d like to introduce our new Account Manager Gavin Duckham to our team in Melbourne!

Gavin has worked in the recruitment industry for the past 15 years and has experience recruiting across many types of roles in South Africa, England and Australia. Gavin’s experience will be great in helping us support our Melbourne based clients.

In addition to welcoming Gavin, we’d like to congratulate our team in Perth who are also doing really well and are starting to make a name for themselves after opening up in Perth towards the end of last year.

If you need any employees around Perth or Melbourne, or know of anyone looking for work in these areas, let us know and we’ll be happy to assist!

SCO Recruitment Shirts

Over the past couple of months we have been giving out Hi Vis shirts to our employees who regularly need them for their work.

It’s a small way of supporting our employees while making sure they are working safely in their workplaces.

If you think you need a Hi Vis shirt and you haven’t received one yet, give your recruitment consultant a call and we’ll get you a shirt as soon as possible!

WH&S – Getting On and Off Equipment and Vehicles

As many of our employees use equipment and vehicles on a daily basis and because injuries can happen so easily, it’s very important to know the proper ways of mounting or dismounting from any equipment or vehicles.

The best way to do this is by using three points of contact. This means using one hand and two feet or two hands and one foot.

As well as this you should:

  • Always face the equipment when mounting or dismounting
  • Only mount or dismount when the equipment is stationary
  • Never jump off of any equipment
  • Use the treads and grab handles provided – don’t use wheel hubs or tyres
  • Ensure the treads and grab handles are in a usable condition and free from mud, oil or grease
  • Ensure your footwear has ample grip
  • Avoid wearing any lose or torn clothing

If you remember these simple points, you will substantially reduce your chance of injury when getting on or off any vehicles or equipment

At the end of this month it’s Easter!

The key dates over the Easter break include:

  • 29th March – Good Friday (Public Holiday)
  • 30th March – Easter Saturday (Public Holiday)
  • 31st March - Easter Sunday
  • 1st April – Easter Monday (Public Holiday)

For clients, if your employees are working over the long weekend, could you please get their timesheets to us by C.O.B on the last day they are working that week.

If they are not working over the long weekend, could you please get timesheets to us by Thursday 28th March.

First newsletter for 2013!

We hope you had a great break over the holidays and are ready to make 2013 another successful year!

timesheet 7

This is another gentle reminder that all timesheets are due in each Monday by 10:00am.

Generally timesheets are sent through on time. Our employees work hard and we just want to make sure they are getting paid on time for the work they put in each week.

If you have any issues or concerns regarding timesheets, give your Account Manager a call. Alternatively you can call Sara directly on 1300 243 850.

As another way of keeping our employees informed and up to date on all issues relating to health and safety, each newsletter will feature a small article on WH&S. This month we’re looking at horseplay.

Horseplay is essentially any rough or boisterous play. It is usually friendly and physical in nature and is seen as fun and harmless, but it can actually be dangerous for both you and your colleagues:

• When you are distracted by your co-workers antics, you are not concentrating on your own work

• If you are messing around you are not giving your full attention to work and safety, which makes it more difficult to notice potential hazards

• Focusing your horseplay on others is even more dangerous. They are not expecting the distraction and it can easily lead to accident

• A large portion of accidents are caused by unsafe acts – by definition horseplay is an unsafe act

Horseplay is banned because it is dangerous. It creates unnecessary risks and is the complete opposite of safe, responsible work

Under the WH&S Act 2011 it is everybody’s responsibility to act in a safe manner

Christmas Payroll

This is just another reminder about Christmas payroll. Any employee timesheets received after 10:00am on Christmas Eve (Monday) won’t get processed until Thursday the 27th of December. To make sure your employees get paid in time for Christmas, please get your timesheets in before 10:00am Monday!

This is the same for New Years as well. Timesheets need to be in by 10:00am Monday 31st December otherwise employees may be paid late. If you’ll be on leave, make sure you get them in beforehand or please make other arrangements.

Client of the Month

From this month on we’ll be introducing a client of the month program!

We’ve decided to thank those clients who are constantly making our lives easier and who are a real pleasure to do business with by sending out a small gift each month.

Although we have many great clients to choose from, this month we’ve decided to go with Sandvik Australia!

It was a tough choice but it’s well deserved. Thanks to everyone out at Sandvik for all your support. We really appreciate it!

Employee of the Month

Once again we’d like to thank our employees for all their hard work over the past month! You guys are such an important part of our business. We couldn’t do it without you!

This month we’ve chosen two employees who have gone that extra mile. A big congratulations goes out to…

  • Blair Comerford
  • Christian Milligan

You guys are our employees of the month for December!  Well done Blair and Christian! We’ll be sending out your movie tickets shortly

Heat Stress

As we have just entered summer and as many of our employees are working outdoors, we thought it would be a good time to remind everyone about heat stress.

Working in the hot sun for extended periods can lead to certain heat disorders which can affect your efficiency and your health including heatstroke, sunstroke or heat exhaustion. To prevent these:

  • Drink plenty of cold fluids, especially water
  • Adopt a sensible diet
  • Wear suitable clothing. A wide-brimmed hat or hard-hat brim and loose light garments allow for good body ventilation. Long sleeves will reduce perspiration loss and will protect you from sun rays
  • You should know and recognise the symptoms of heat exhaustion, heatstroke or sunstroke so you can take immediate action for treatment and medical attention

Symptoms of heat exhaustion:

  • Headache, dizziness, nausea
  • Muscular cramps
  • General feeling of tiredness
  • Profuse sweating and cold and clammy skin
  • Drinking does not satisfy thirst

Symptoms of heatstroke or sunstroke:

(Heatstroke is a serious medical condition that requires immediate attention. It should be treated as a Medical Emergency)

  • Excitement, convulsions, delirium
  • Face becomes flushed
  • Skin becomes dry and hot
  • Body temperature rises alarmingly
  • In extreme circumstances the patient may become unconscious

By recognising these symptoms, wearing suitable clothing and by eating and drinking well, you should feel much more comfortable working in the sun!

Christmas Opening Hours

Our office in Moorebank will be closed on the public holidays throughout the Christmas/New Year period including:

  • Christmas Day (Tuesday 25th December)
  • Boxing Day (Wednesday 26th December)
  • New Years Day (Tuesday 1st January)

Outside of these days we will be operating as usual from 8:30am – 5:00pm.

If you have any enquiries or concerns, feel free to give us a call on 1300 243 850

November Newsletter

This month has been a busy one at SCO – this is what’s been happening.

BRW Awards

SCO Recruitment was just recently named the 2nd fastest growing company in Australia by BRW after coming in 2nd place on the 2012 BRW Fast 100.

This is a fantastic achievement, however we’d like to make it clear that this was a combined effort. Our employees have all worked very hard over the past few years, yet this couldn’t have been achieved without the care and support from each and every one of our clients and the employees we have placed. We’d like to thank you for making this possible and we hope to continue working well with you in the future towards even more shared success.

Click here to read an article on the Top 10:

New Candidates

As it’s coming into the busy season, particularly with parks and gardens work, we’ve been recruiting some great candidates over the past few weeks in a variety of areas including:

  • Parks and Gardens - qualified horticulturists, arborists, landscapers and greenskeepers with mowing, brushcutting and whipper snipper experience with MR licences
  • Concreters - with concrete finishing, steelwork, footpaths and kerbs and guttering experience
  • Generalist Labourers - with experience in relevant and specific labour areas
  • …and many more

So if you need some extra help in the coming weeks, just give one of our recruitment consultants a call on 1300 243 850.

New Website

We’ve taken the first steps in updating our website by improving it’s look and usability. Take a look here:

We’re also planning to incorporate more features over the coming weeks including:

  • Online candidate registration
  • Being able to apply for jobs directly on our site

These will also be introduced in the near future with an SCO Recruitment App which you can use to apply for jobs directly from your iPad or iPhone. We’re aiming to create a more efficient process for all of our candidates. Stay tuned for these and even more exciting updates soon!

Employee of the Month

From this month on we will be introducing an employee of the month program where we will be giving away free movie tickets to two of our top performing employees. This will be introduced as a way of recognising and rewarding all of the hard work that our employees continually put in week in and week out.

Our employees of the month for November are:

  • Roland Barber of SITA
  • John Melnyczenko of Auburn City Council

Congratulations to Roland and John! We will be sending you your movie tickets shortly!

Employee Referral Program

As a way to bring in even more great candidates, we’re introducing an employee referral program. If any of our employees know of someone who is interested in looking for work, let us know. If one of your referrals starts working and stays with us for more than 2 weeks, you’ll get two free movie tickets!

Christmas Payroll

This year the Christmas public holidays will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday (25th and 26th December). As we won’t be in the office on these days all timesheets must be sent through to us by Friday 21st December or on the Monday morning by the latest – this is so we can process our employees pay before Christmas. If not, employee timesheets won’t get processed until Thursday (27th) meaning they won’t get paid until the Friday, so please get your timesheets in on time.

This is the same for New Years where the public holiday is on a Tuesday (1st). Once again timesheets need to be in by Friday (28th) or Monday morning at the latest, otherwise employees may be paid late.
